Counselling

We can help you access face to face counselling and online counselling.

You can read our Charter here.

What can I talk about?

Counselling can help with a wide range of issues, problems, anxieties or difficulties. Our associate counsellors are able to help you talk about common issues such as:

  • Anxiety and panic attacksWebsite pictures 011
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Confidence and self-esteem
  • Confusion, despair, sadness or anger
  • Coping with illness or disability
  • Depression
  • Difficulty coping with everyday issues
  • Relationship issues
  • Stress
  • Violence and abuse
  • Work related issues

What kind of counselling will I receive?

Counselling is about being supported by a trained counsellor as you work out your own way through your difficulties. Our well qualified team of associate counsellors use a variety of counselling approaches to suit your individual needs. They will not tell you what you should do or offer advice but will provide safe, confidential sessions where you can explore issues or feelings which cause you distress or difficulty. All our associate counsellors offer non-judgemental counselling in which you are accepted and understood and your decisions respected.

Are there things you are unable to help with?

There are certain client issues and situations that may mean that The Well and their associate counsellors might not be a suitable service for you. These may include:
  • Chronic drug addiction & alcoholism
  • Chronically incapacitating phobic symptoms
  • Chronically incapacitating obsessional symptoms
  • Gross destructive and self-destructive acting out
  • Severe eating disorders
  • Bi-polar unless been stable for some time
  • Confirmed homosexual asking to be made heterosexual
  • Being seen by Mental Health team, unless the client agrees to our contacting the Mental Health Team and all parties agree we are an appropriate service for the client
  • A client is seeing a psychiatrist or psychologist at the current time or in the past six months, unless the client agrees to our speaking to them and all parties agree we are an appropriate service for the client
  • A client who is taking or has been prescribed anti-psychotic drugs, unless the client agrees to our speaking to the doctor who prescribed the medication and all parties agree we are an appropriate service for the client
  • Situations involving a current or pending legal process may also mean that counselling will not be offered.

What about confidentiality?

Each of our associate counsellors belong to an accredited professional membership body, and is expected to adhere to the ethical and professional guidelines of those counselling standards.  The Well Counselling is itself a member of the Association of Christians in Counselling and Related Professions (ACC).

As an organisation we support the rights you have regarding the management of your personal information, as given in the General Data Protection Regulations. Full information on privacy at The Well Counselling can be found on our Your data page and our Website Privacy Policy page.

Who can have counselling?

Counselling is available for anyone from 18 years of age, irrespective of gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin or religion.

How long will counselling last?

You will have weekly counselling with your associate counsellors, at the same time and on the same day, with a review after 4 to 6 sessions to see whether more sessions would be helpful. Some people find they need only a few weeks to work through their issues while for others it may take several months.

What will it cost?

The Well Counselling seeks to provide access to professional counselling to anyone who requires help whatever their financial position. The service we provide would cost you a minimum of £40-£50 per session directly from a private counsellor.

As part of registration The Well Counselling will ask for a non-refundable £10 admin fee, before putting you in direct contact with one of our associate counsellors for an initial assesment.  There is no fixed rate for counselling, but clients are expected to contribute towards the cost of their counselling and your counsellor will discuss with you what you consider to be affordable in your first session.

How do I arrange an appointment?

You can email us via the Contact form on the Contact Us page or you can leave a message on our answer phone on 07793 505832. Messages and emails are checked daily and usually responded to within 24 hours during the working week.

How long will I need to wait?

Affordable counselling options are in high demand and therefore you may be required to wait until you are matched with an associate counsellor.  There are a number of factors that make it difficult to accurately estimate your waiting time, including how flexible you are to be matched with a counsellor.  We are happy to discuss this with you.
